See now this is where I have to stick up for people who can sing and play their own instruments. I really have a lot of respect for McFly. I don't listen to their music but from what I've heard they have written some catchy 50s style pop songs. They also can perform those songs live and they have also written songs for other bands too. All this and they are only late teens/very early 20s.
I for one never had a number one when I was 18. And I respect anyone who has done that themselves.
They are so much more talented than half the indie bands out there. People like arctic monkeys who also write their own songs and play their instruments live suck in comparison – they can play their instuments or sing harmonies for shit and their songs are no way near as well arranged and they must be older that McFly.
The difference is that McFly have been marketed at teenage girls so you immediately think that you aren't allowed to like them. Both bands have been marketed very heavily in very different ways.
Speaking as a musician of many years who has performed with lots of live bands. I'd pick McFly over arctic monkeys any day.
