I had running battles with Uni tutors when writing my dissertation on Hypertext and General Semantics. I thought it was absolutely crystal - it's place. They thought otherwise.. although I think a short section about William Boroughs and his take on Alfred Korzbyski proper freaked them out. I went ahead and did it anyway and got a low grade. Basically I don't think they understood it.
Not quite Semiology, but thought I'd share that anyway.
