dude, call a lawyer.
for a flash site, during comps... simply make the site dependent on a file with an absolute url to your site. easy. for html, no clue.
for anyone else reading this, the short of the story is get multiple sign offs with payments at each step. i break mine into thirds. works fine. no honest client will complain. once you get to know the client and they pay on time, you can forgo this on future jobs. BUT all first jobs with new clients... get the payments.
i got stuck once too but the second biggest accounting firm in my town. jerks.
