i'm really impressed with MT and with the price in dollars its good value. I'd love to know of a decent uk hosting company but weve been let down by quite a few.
I have been looking at rackspace recently, not sure they are UK or do shared hosting but its worth a look.
I have also subscribed to "web host industry news" at http://www.thewhir.com to try and find the gud uns. maybe have a look around that site too.
