    ha! i can beat that:

    take an mp3... an already inferior version of the original that was made that way by cutting out unneeded frequencies leaving the solid 'meat'. this is already far from the original binary pattern. now what if we cut off the last 3 seconds of the song... it would take the best pattern recognition algorithm in the world to match the new version to the original.

    all that to say, it's really difficult to copyright 1's and 0's but some companies (particularly the RIAA) don't seem to think so.
