It makes the viewer intrigued and constantly strives to find an answer. They used the same idea in Ronin, what was in the briefcase?
Like the "creature" in Lost (or the 1st series anyway, haven't watched any more than that).
Having said that Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield acted strangely like gaurdian angels and the code on the case to open it was 666
