It's possible to improve your singing 'abilities', but, generally, you have to be gifted in some way.
I used to take singing lessons for years (classical stuff) and I have a decent voice. I think it really did improve me, but overall my voice isn't superly amazing or anything. I'm great for some ranges, horrible in others.
In conclusion, warm up a bit and figure out what range is good for you.
