screw that brooke, thats terrible advise. get an agent, build relations by finding work on different places, either it's online or offline through people you know. if you are desperate, invest. by that i mean: design some calendars, fun postcards, stickers, send your portfolio to art/creative directors and such; things that will make people think/remember you. if you do things like that work will come right back if you're good.
how are people supposed to know you're a designer or even exist if you just sit on your ass and don't expose yourself.
i can understand that after one's been working with agencies for long enough that people know you and contact you when they need something.
