    I think Tim's explanation makes a lot of sense, especially the part about cutting the exposure of the second shot in half.

    Just to give you an idea of how it might work, here are two examples I took:

    This is actually a triple exposure. The first image is the sculpture and buildings; the second is my friend's face, and the third is her shoulder on the right side of the frame. Clearly the first shot dominates.

    Example 2:

    The first shot is of Lake Tahoe. The second image is a Cadillac on some random downtown street. Again the first image dominates, although there's a point near the back of the car where the density is equal.

    Note that cross-processing tends to produce inconsistent results - especially depending on the film you use. But then again, that's part of the fun, for me anyway.
