There aren't a huge number of design firms actually in proper St. Paul, but there are a few here and there that are worth checking into.
As for Minneapolis/St. Paul in general, the cities are so saturated with designers that it is impossible to break in unless you are lucky. First jobs here are all timing and dumb luck...nothing more, nothing less. Oh, that and who you know.
I spent ten months looking for the job I currently have. My advice is, if you are looking to move to the Twin Cities, you better be top notch if you want to stay, because otherwise you will end up working at TGI Fridays serving rehashed microwave dinners.
But yes, great scene. Just no jobs.
