People here seem to either love or hate apple. They're just like any company.
When I'm at Sears buying large appliances for my house, if I choose not to get the extended care, then I know it's on me. It's a calculated risk. If my dishwasher or AC unit dies after the warranty expires and I don't have extended care, I'm fucked.
