None of this explains why content of any box element (including body) cannot be _easily_ aligned vertically, just as it is aligned horizontally with 'text-align'.
It could with tables which is one of the big reasons people stick to them.
Can someone just admit that it's because css peeps were nerds so I can go back to work and be quiet?

No.
There is nothing tables can do that CSS can't.
