OH yes, its Apple's fault. Certainly.

And it's our fault that you're not eloquent and mature enough to respond to these posts like a mature adult.

Wait, no, its not. Caveat Emptor.

I just sold a 2nd gen and a 4th gen ipod this past fall and traded up to a 60 gig video for me and a 4 gig nano for the wife. No Apple Care on either. Why? Because I know that in a year, when the warranty is up, they will go on eBay again and be traded up for something else. Whatever new toy Apple or whoever has out that stikes my fancy. If they don't have anything that I want, I keep it for another 6 months and trade it out when they do.

The mistake I don't make anymore is to get so attatched to a product that if it dies, I will blow a gasket, let alone make a fool out of myself on in a public form.

Welcome to the new consumer culture. That's how things work. We are no longer in an age where we can buy something and have it last a lifetime, especially something that is engineered to exacting specfications, and is turned out a large quantities to make the product cheaper. There's a high rate of failure for these devices because of their size and their parts, ask any Apple store employee.

If you want something that will last a life time, take that $250 next time and put that towards a pair of diamond earrings for your lady, but don't you DARE come back here and rant when she loses them.
