ya, you'll learn to get apathetic to that kind of crap. Clients want what they want, no matter how horribly designed or dumb it seems, so why fight it. Give them what they want, if its portfolio worthy, change it back to what you envisioned and keep it.
With design as a job, the only artistic freedom you'll get, for the most part, is what you do for yourself...........
