Yes you can. The Tibia is the one that carries all the weight. The Fibula does very little. One of it's main job is to ensure there's movement in the knee and the ankle.
The doctors left only about 2-3 inches of bone in the knee and ankle so that i wouldn't lose movility. Without those couple of inches of bone there can't be any movement. The rest of the bone was completely removed. I'd say about 70% of the bone is gone.

According to my doctors the fibula is a very useless bone and causes many problems in atheles, this is why they thougth it'd be better to just get ride of it, rather than keep it and maybe have more problems with it.

They knew I was a juniors tennis player, so they knew how much this would affect me, but they said it wouldn't affect my mobility. They were right. I can still kick butt in tennis. I have no problems with my leg at all. It's as goo das when i was 14. The only bad things are the scar and the silly fear of getting injured again, coz I still can't understand how all this actually worked just fine.

So the answer is Yes. You can have it removed but not all of it. 80% can be easily gone.
