  did Mt. St Helens release more carbon dioxide at one time than the human race will ever be able to. i read that somewhere reliable, just can't remember now.

  Sure, Widescale Vulcanism can do this in a bigtime bad@ss way. It might have been responsible for killing off the Dinosaurs along side with Metorites/Asteroids.
