My life is pretty normal; not much change takes place these days.

It was raining when I fell asleep last night and still coming down this morning. I woke up shocked that the alarm went off (as always) and off to work I went.

I went about my job in the usual manner, smiling and happy to see the same people I come in contact every weekday [really]. My co-workers talked to me about each other and, of course, I offered my profound wisdom as was necessary.... I was a little put off by traffic, but seeing as how it is part of my job, it was nothing out of the norm. Not once did anyone mention anything new or even different. One of my co-workers listens to ESPN radio like it's his religion and not even HE broke rank.

So I get home a while ago, kick off the shoes, turn on the 'puter, grab the remote and sit down to see what happened today.

There was an important march in DC today (pretty standard). Ford announced they were cutting up to 30,000 jobs (if it isn't Ford today, it'll be someone tomorrow). Some goofballs tried to steal the Olympic torch (are you serious?) Mad Cow is back (Be afraid. Be very afraid.) Cell phones cause brain tumors? Maybe not. But the item that caught my attention was something that just doesn't happen.

Last night in that weird place that Tommy and the Dodgers called home, a kid whose dad was nicknamed 'Jellybean' did something you aren't supposed to do. Sacrilege?

Only one person has ever scored more points in a single game than was scored last night. Scoot over Jordan (69) - you're not even in the top ten. Bye Robinson, Baylor, Thompson... hello Wilt.

I am not particularly fond [of my perception] of Kobe Bryant's attitude or personal life. There are countless people in this world with just as many (and more) skeletons in their closets. Some are wide open for all to see... others remain sealed forever. But this gave me reason to pause. Babe. Gehrig. The Great One. Super Mario. Jim Brown. Butkus. Sweetness. Pistol. Magic. Russell. The Stilt. #23. They all carried their bag o' bones.

And now Kobe? I hate paradigm shifts.
