Here's my two cents on whats happened and why I'll be able to sleep well at night.

The liberals have been in power for a long time, but more importantly not since '93 have we had a real alternative party that was ready to govern. The NDP are fine but they supply the checks and balances thats all. They have never been close to holding power federally, and that's including the Ed B days.

So finally the Conservatives rebuild the party to a point where they can actually offer an alternative. Granted they have had to dig pretty deep to find even semi sane members to march out in public... but they did it.

Now I don't like the Conservatives, and I don't like Harper either. Had I been able to choose, I'd given the Liberals another minority. The problem was that the Liberals really didn't deserve a majority, and this is not because of the sponsorship scandal. They have lost touch and become complacent... maybe even a little lazy.

So people have gotten frustrated and elected Harper (to a minority thank god) and though it means a step back I think in the long term we will take two steps forward. This will happen because all the CP lonnies will come out of the woodwork and the Harper government will be struck down. The Liberals will win the next election, but will be re-energized, have the people in mind, and most importantly have the fear of the PC in them. The PC's will due to there success attact better people and become a party with broader based popularity. Yes, we as voters will have a choice again and that will make the Liberals work a lot harder for us in the future.
