Soda is fine.
In quite a few places there is an above normal bacteria content in the water. Fine for them, but coming from the states our bodies aren't used to it, you'll be stuck on the pot for days if you drink their water.
Like in a restaurant. Ask for bottled water, not the tap they pour into your glass.
Have fun. It really is a wonderful place.
