Good work overall in the portfolio, I'd take all the subjective criticism with a grain of salt...
I agree about the background, it would be nice if it would change every time a visitor comes to your site, though being able to switch it up is a nice option. I'd think up something a bit more textural for the background and maybe less distracting.
Also agree about the apps used, seems superfluous. Overall quite nice tho.
