In my case it wasn't so much web "dating" as it was web "meeting."
Met my girlfriend on the personals at theonion.com, we talked for a few weeks, met in person, went on a date, and have been together for over three years now.

On a sidenote - my Mom just sent me the profile a friend of hers has on match.com or some site. Man, way too technical. I know as people get older they want to meet someone quick and them be the exact thing they want, but it's pretty lame to be able to spell out all this criteria of your dream person and leave nothing to chance.
