kelpie there is never a point in which society needs to induce suffering or torture on another human beign.
there is a point where society has to say that the actions of members of that society are unacceptable and thus that person must be punished.
at present our society and the powers that govern this society say that this punishments takes the form of being excluded from society for a period of time.
