Kerry proved that a long career in the Senate is suicide for a presidential bid (true for either party)..you just get too long of a voting record to defend/explain. I would say Obama would have to hit it now in 08 or leave the senate and run for a Governorship somewhere to remain a legit contender past the '08 date
