The director was interviewed on Attack of the Show and he said that they go the idea from a website offering you to shoot a person in the head in Thailand. The person you kill agrees to do it and some of the money goes to his family. They wanted to find out if it was legit but got to a part of the site where it asked for credit card info and they stopped there. They didn't mention what the website was by the way.
