Why they moved away from the old logo is a question at first, but it does look quite old, and thus, while the new logo may be extremely basic, it works.
When I read into their reasoning I shall comment again, but since I imagine they're trying to update their image, being one with the times with this clean, "overused" logo style works. It gets the point across and that's all that matters.
