If you look at the old Kodak logo - the 'a' is very different and sticks out from the other letterforms like a sore thumb - like it's a little joke, or hint or something.

They took that concept and carried it over to the new logotype.
I can't fault them for that.
The relationship of the yellow box and the type was almost symbiotic - one couldn't really exist without the other - if you resize or move things around it all falls apart.

I can't say I 'like' the new letterforms - but it IS true to the brand and DOES take it into the future.

Ironically, the typestyle that the typeface is based on isn't all that new. Rand and other designers were drawing letter-forms and 'futuristic' stuff like that 40 years ago.

    As for Apple:
    They did re-brand.
They have stripped the Apple of it's stripes, turned it into the ubiquitous, un-dilutable mark.
You can't do much wrong with that thing.
They also changed the type from a custom Garamond to Myriad.

Not to mention how much Aqua has informed their branding since OS X came out.

Personally, I think Apple's branding is flexible and timeless enough to last another 30 years
