    unless you really want to do pharma, don't count on working in NJ. There's a few good non-pharma places, but they're small, and few & far between. And there's more in North Jersey than South. In any case, just plan on leaving yourself a good commute to Philly or NYC (there's a couple nice places in Central NJ that give you a decent train commute in), and are driveable into Philly

    Also, North Jersey is freakin expensive to live in, owning or renting.

    Unless you want to go to Jersey City or Newark.
