in-house kicks ass IMO

mayo: I think it has more to do with where you work...because the design team here is treated like freaking royalty....no, wait, we're treated like we have these special magical powers...its actually quite awesome. I agree that a studio environment is much much cooler but I don't think most designers really appreciate in-house (I know I never did). I definitely think there is much much more of a creative challenge with agency, freelance or studio work but the stability isn't really there with those.....and for someone like me who got laid off from an agency 2.5 years ago and has had nothing but instability since, its really nice to have that secure feeling while still being able to go after much more creative work with freelance.
