The weird thing about Westwood is that he's got to be nearly fifty and he's still pimping the big dog baby boy (or something), as I believe he would put it.
I used to by a magazine called "Blues and Soul" in the mid-late 80s and people were complaining about him then!! He was a big Deep Purple fan at school I seem to remember according to one of the letters printed in the mag.
He had a slot on the UK's first through-the-night TV programme called Night Network and I used to video it to watch old Run DMC videos or see Biz Markie beatbox live in the studio (amazing what he could do).
Westwood has been playing hip hop in the UK forever which at one time was a big deal as pretty much all the other radio DJs in the UK in the 80s were "hilarious" personality DJs who played the top 40 and nothing else ever.
Unless you could get pirates like KISS you weren't going to hear anything good.
Westwoods problem is he's kind of evolved with hip-hop and whereas he used to be quite underground playing PE before they were known etc. , he's just followed hip-hops acension to global domination and homogenisation and become quite mainstream and shit. A parody of how it used to be unfortunately.
