I completely agree. I find the whole ritual increasingly bizzare and meaningless each year.
I feel like I have to participate even though I don't want to. I'm made to feel like a scrooge - I just find this hysterical consumption/consumerism repulsive.
That is on top of the fact - the stuff I get I neither want or need. Often it shows how little people know each other.
Next year I'm going to ask for donations or to buy a goat for a family in Africa or something.
