DONT DO ANYTHING ON YOUR MAC AT ALL UNTIL YOU RUN DATA RESCUE!!!!!
I used Data Rescue a few weeks ago to retrieve my itunes library.
It lets you try it for free so you can make sure it can recover the files you need.
Then after you've confirmed it can retrieve the files you pay $99 ( a small cost to pay) and they'll give you a serial number.
It worked like a charm!
