I also want to add that the best way to bump your salary is to change jobs. Companies rarly give out raises and when they do its very little. From the time I was making 35k Ive worked at 6 different place and that increased my salary considerably. I worked at one place for almost 5 years and they only gave me a 3k raise once and this was a huge worldwide AD agency.
