    Actually both of you are right. The essence in language is the intended meaning, which coressponds to the existing states of affairs, or facts, in the world (Wittgenstein). Thoughts expressed in language "picture" these fact. A not-so sectet code exchanged between participants in a conversation.

    If you asked for a sandwhich and he gave you a whole one and you agreed with this, then you had reached a concensus on the use of language. If you asked for a sandwhich and he gave you a half one, then there's been a break-down in the exchange of the language as code. However the world of facts remains unchanged.

    Other words, haven't you got better things to argue about?
