    If you were here in Blighty, you too could have been subject to Channel 4's long-running campaign to inundate the populace with a firm sense of the value of 'Top n' lists.. their current season is around the theme of 'Top n Top ns'.

    Fucking pointless TV.

    Anyway, in answer to your question 'Why..' I guess it'd be something to do with the self-referencing mechanic of the proposed concept - by default, the 'Top n of Top n' list would logically have to include itself, as it is an ultimate reference, which would lead to an immediate semantic conflict with itself - there couldnt' be a 'Top n' without the ..er.. top of the 'Top n'. So it'd have to be 'Top n -1'.

    Still. Not enough caffeine.
