"no pets" is one of those things they have to say to releave them of liability. i've never known a place that actually enforces it other than to use that as a reason to evict a tennant.
lots of places will do a credit check, but not having a job doesn't necessarily mean you have bad credit. like everyone else said, as long as they have check in hand on the first of the month, they're happy :)
