wow radiosilent, i've had the complete opposite reaction. i believe the aluminum to be an amazing quality and very much a value added to the product. my boss even catches me "petting" my new powerbook ocassionally due to the tactile-ly goodness that encases the beast.
as for portability, you're right. don't get it if you want to go mountain climbing with it. but in terms of sheer weight, it is less than most other laptops with much smaller monitors.
it's not for everybody, but as a replacement for a desktop, it fits the bill for me. i take it to work everyday, and to coffee houses and parks to do freelance work on my off time. i use a normal messenger bag. (until my booq bag comes in on may 1st).
the added space on the monitor is much more than just 2". it is also a much higher resolution. and the screen is a lot higher quality (viewable from almost every angle).
as for the keyboard, it is a true step up from the tibook of old. the keys have a much better feel and response to the touch... especially for fast typing. it's definitely not like an external keyboard, but it is the best for the size i've ever seen/used. and the illumination is very cool. i thought it was kind of gimmicky at first, but have since used it on more than one ocassion.
all in all, i'm very satisfied. it's not for everyone, but there are pleny of people for whom it fits the bill.
