travel is so easy these days - i'd be avoiding the resorts if i was taking off for some vacation time. i like a little culture shock with my sun.
depends how much and how long you got.. but assuming you're not crossing the atlantic, there's lots of interesting places you could hit that would be a good balance of sun and culture for a first time.
cuba.. costa rica.. belize.. guatemala if your up for a little more hustle.
brazil is up there on my wish list.
