i once was on the train from Firenze to Viareggio and i got arrrested by the Carabiniere as i walked across the train tracks following other people but not knowing that they work for the train and i just did a bad thing, i was detained for 3 hours being yelled at while i was hand cuffed to the bench all in Italian and that was my second day there and i knew nothing that they were saying, i was almost laughing as these guys were decked out in Armani Army uniforms!
in the end i had to pay $1,100,000 Lira which at that time was like a couple hundred bucks! which the Carabiniere pocketed!
i even seen them pocket the cash!!!
so i reconmend to not walk across the train tracks when in italy!
why not take a vespa??
