a grid's a good place to start but don't let it control you. not to sound all zen, but people tend to submit to the grid and don't let it work for them.

sometimes I find that if i use a grid it just looks shit, like the whole layout is all square and boring. I try to stick to the grid, but sometimes I find you have to just forget it and break out of it... depends on the content really. or maybe I am constructing my grids wrong... (note to self: buy that orange grid book today)
