I run an design agency/consultancy which consists of "one" (me) although I very occasionally use freelancers. Most of the work is screen based although there is some design for print. I am starting to consider whether I should view myself as business person rather than designer since "designer" feels quite limited in terms of extending what one does in order to be more successful.

The company is Ltd (UK based). This has higher costs for running. I pay an accountant to submit company accounts (which is fairly normal).

I have a few medium sized clients who provide quite a of irregular work. Some small clients who provide 2% of income. My business overheads are low-ish. I work from a home studio. On average I work 5 longish days a week - 10+ hours. In the past I have worked regularly for 6 + days a week with long hours.

I have three people to support so my personal overhead is high. I have my own house, two cars and a good standard of living. I have been working for over twenty years so I have amassed my personal assets over time. When I was in my 20s (as many NTers are) I did not have a new car, house etc. It does take time to get these things - funny thing is I'm not sure they are as important as they appear to be when you don't have them.
