I went to NYC less than a month ago and posted pix from my trip on my website -- http://www.lindanet.net/pix.php?…
I didn't check out a lot of art places, like I did back in '99. Anyhow, for arts, I recommend these places:
1. Dia Center of the Arts (in the Chelsea district -- there's also a whole bunch galleries there) http://www.diacenter.org
2. ACE Gallery in SOHO (does it still exist there?) Larger than the average gallery, like a museum, high quality works, but free. Try to find the Gallery Guide, a listing of all the galleries and shows with map -- usually galleries hand them out for free.
3. Guggeinheim. I think the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum is next door.
4. De La Guardia -- amazing performance
5. PS1 -- in Long Island -- you can take the subway there from Manhattan.
Have fun!
