G5s are great, and they work so well! We have several at work, and I have my own at home that I bought 2 yrs ago.
I'm going to wait until the new Macintel come out, but only because I already have one.
However if I were in your situation I'd buy it now, just because the first new Intel Macs might have some issues, software is not going to be totally recompiled, and stuff like that.
That's what I did when apple transitioned from the 68000 series to the PowerPC. And I found that it was teh right decision.
