Do you really want to use the Terminal?
If you go into Applications and dbl-click AppleScript Utility, it will enable the Script menu in the menu bar.
Then open a folder (with subfolders) in the Finder, and choose from the Appliscript menu: Finder Scripts > Change case of Item Names
Theres some pretty good GUI driven apps out there for doing this with LOTS of options if you need em (renaming to EXIF data, sequence ranaming, trimming, etc)
