    like everyone is saying, don't use Fontbook.. it really can't handle a designer's font library.

    just leave Fontbook as originally installed with the system fonts in their OSX libraries, and set up a separate location for your personal font library, preferably on a different disk/ partition than OSX.

    and use a 3rd party manager; Suitcase, FontAgentPro3, or Linotype FontXplorer.
