i just picked up a 98 kawi zx 600 r for 4200 cdn, full 4 into 2 into one hindle stealth exhaust, new tires and new brakes. bikes rule. do not go buy your self an r1 or repsol cbr 1000, you will die. this is my 4th bike in 3 years and i am very glad that i started out with a smaller one and made all my mistakes then. i had a 1991 ninja as well that was a great introduction to sportbikes after i got the basics down on first a cb 400 then a cb 650. the r 1 will wheelie in 4th gear just by giving it gas, you can not turn with your front tire in the air. any modern sportbike will go waaaaaay faster than any car you have ever driven. period. find a real old clunker on craigslist drive around parking lots for a month or 2 then get something a little better. learn how to countersteer, slam on the brakes etc. you dont have to spend a ton o cash to get a sweet ride, especially if you dont mind a few scratches on the bike, knocks a few grand off the price. best all around bike i have ever heard of for beginner to intermediate skills, but still fun enough for all is the sv650. oh and like the other guys said, alwaays wear jacket, gloves, pants. have fun.
