I've got two Maxtor drives and both are great.
The new ones are wonderful - scheduled backups and they take up barely any of the hard drive (they come with a small version of Dantz Retrospec, which is worth something by itself).
I've got a 200 and 300 gig drives.
Another good thing is that they are USB 2.0 AND Firewire compatible (I've got one machine with USB 1 and Firewire, the other with USB 2 - so it's great). I believe Lacie and others are one or the other.
