my first semester at school was about 80% frat parties... its just an excuse to pool your money and have huge parties. thats it. those got old though, but nothing better than having somewhere to go with free booze and girls everywhere.
you can network with whoever you want and meet people for contacts... if you're in a frat, that's another labelw orking against you in that game
