go ahead and join. nothing to lose. it's quite fun actually.
there are legalities - especially with photos containing people - you'll need a model release. You have to go through a "training tutorial" before you can upload photos that explains all the legalities, etc. (takes about 20 minutes, if that) - then it will take about 1 or 2 weeks for them to approve your 3 sample images - upon approval you will be an official contributing member.
