    I agree with people like Clear...most people keep their browser windows at a size to view 800x600, and the rest of the screen is for IM, email, word, whatever. If you're used to having all thos apps visible, it's annoying to have to hide them to view a web page.

    Back in the stone age when 640x80 or 800x600 was common screen res, people maxed their browsers because the screen was so small....the same doesn't necessarily hold for screen res above that.

    Personally I also find sites that have gone 1024 (eg, latimes.com, huffingtonpost.com) are super mad busy. Like they would have been a lot better with less columns on a page that just scrolled longer.

    But everything's relative. Depends on the audience.
