one of the nice things about design is that there is a vehicle (the very tawdry and ostentatious one of filthy lucre, sadly) for it to reach people who don't participate in 'high' art and culture and, to a certain extent, don't want to. it's a bit of a battleground at the moment, and i can see where that fellah you heard last night is coming from, vespa. we're in a medici-esque position and i would hope we would all take advantage of that for reasons beyond economics. the optimist in me says that we're waging a democratisation of design. one of the other wee silver linings of globalisation, perhaps?
